Card Database - Wednesday, November 01, 2006

We've begun working on a card database. It includes images, text, and all the other details found on each card. You can see a list of the Heroes of Azeroth cards here:

If you notice any errors in it or cards that we missed, please let us know.

What features do you want in a card database? How do you want to be able to search the cards?

www.wowcards.org/ does it nicely in that the format is much nicely presented. I like the auto popup card but it needs to be optimized. Its also possible to pop up with information similiar to the official rules/text on the card instead of just the card itself.

I think the easiest way to figure how to do it is to think about how you want to build a deck.

In my mind, when I build a deck, I think Horde or Alliance first. So you need a Horde+Neutral allies and Alliance+Neutral allies filter.

Then there is obviously the Quest, Equipment filter which just lists Quests and Equipment (depending on your side it should also filter our Horde/Alliance specific Quest).

There also should be a Ability filter that is restricted to your class.

So in addition to whatever filter you want, there should be some big buttons with Heroes on them somewhere that has some preset values for you. For example, selecting Elendril will automatically filter allies to be Alliance/Neutral, quests to be alliance, all hunter equipment, only hunter abilities.

Of course, the underlying layer should be more flexible. The intermediate step of selecting Elendril actually sets the following variables -> side=Alliance, class=Hunter, spec=Marksmanship, race=Elf, tradeskill=whatever/whatever

And those will be the query parameters.

Another example is selection Tazo, this will set the variables to be
side=Horde&class=Mage&spec=Fire&race=Troll&tradeskill0=whatever0&tradeskill1=whatever1

and it will show only Horde allies, horde quests, all mage equipments, all mage quest.
