The problem of Epic treasure cards - Friday, July 07, 2006

Each raid deck will include a few epic treasure cards meant as a reward for defeating a raid boss. You'll be able to buy these raid decks in stores. According to the latest InQuest Gamer, epic treasure cards from raid decks will all be legal in tournaments. If the epic gear from these raid decks is anything like the epic items in the online game, they will be significantly better than most other items in the game.

Does this mean that the tournaments will be dominated by players with deep pockets? Undoubtedly some people will buy lots of raid decks just to add the epic treasure cards to their deck. Hopefully the epic gear will not be categorically better than all other non-Epic items. Perhaps there will be a higher cost associated with playing a more powerful card. Otherwise the tournaments will be dominated by those who can afford to buy enough epic cards to deck their characters out in purples.

Treasure cards will be balanced just like any other TCG card.

So, a Tier 3 Helm may offer more protection than a Tier 2 Helm, it will also cost more to play.

Money will not be a major factor in who has the best decks. Many of the best tournament cards are commons.

They could have a limited numbers of blues allowed in each deck, that would help.
