Interview with Lead Designer - Wednesday, July 26, 2006

The official TCG site has just wrapped up an interview with Danny Mandel, the lead designer for the card game. He reveals a few interesting bits of information about the game:
  • Race will matter more in the card game than it does in the online game. In the online game, with a few circumstantial exceptions, race doesn't affect the game play very much. It sounds like racial abilities will be more powerful and used more often in the card game.
  • Similar to online PvP, card game PvP may have a bit of paper-rock-scissors to it. Certain classes and talent builds will have a distinct advantage over other specific class and talent builds.
  • Certain cards, such as weapon cards, will be part of your deck. Similar to most other card games, the deck will be randomized and you can't rely on always having a particular weapon card available. On the other hand, your main hero card will not be part of the deck and you'll be able to rely on always having it.
  • Deck construction will be very flexible. Abilities, weapons, armor, and even party members will all be included in your deck. It sounds like you'll be able to decide how many of each you'll place in your deck. For example, you'll be able to make a deck that focuses on gear and includes few, or no, party members.
The interview is in four parts:
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4.
